The Age Wave and Its Affects on Oklahoma

September 2022

As one of the largest generations in the country, boomers leave a substantial imprint on the population. Boomers will significantly enlarge the number of older adults as they age.

Currently, there are more than 46 million adults aged 65 and older living in the U.S, and 10,000 people will turn 65 years old each day for the next decade.

In 2030, when all boomers will be older than 65, senior Americans will make up 21 percent of the population…up from 15 percent today. By 2050, the number of people in the U.S. aged 65 or older is expected to be nearly 90 million, according to the US Census Bureau.

By 2060, nearly one in four Americans will be 65 years or older. The number of 85-plus will triple, and the country will add a half million citizens aged 100 years and older.

If the trends continue, the U.S. is heading towards a demographic first. In less than two decades, older adults are projected to outnumber kids 18 years and younger for the first time in US history.

With this swelling number of older adults, the country will see greater demands for healthcare, in-home caregiving, and assisted living communities. Baptist Village Communities (BVC) is called to help, and the dedicated care and services offered by our team wouldn’t be possible without you and your generous support.

BVC doesn’t settle for “average” care and living for our senior adults. We expect and provide exceptional services. BVC will continue to provide the quality our residents deserve and their families expect. We know the continuing increase in aging adults will make it more difficult for people to find quality senior housing when it’s needed, and BVC wants to ensure Oklahoma, we will be ready!

As the largest not-for-profit provider of senior adult housing and services in Oklahoma, BVC continues to seek ways to improve the care for seniors at our eleven locations across the state.

As a not-for-profit organization, BVC typically provides housing and services to senior adults below market rates as compared to for-profit corporations. Providing the very best in care to you and your loved ones is not something we take lightly.

In 2022, gifts from generous donors helped make the following possible:
> Providing homes to approximately 1,500 senior adults through our Residential, Assisted Living, Memory Support, Rehabilitation, and Health Center (Long-Term Care) Neighborhoods.
> Helping more than 900 seniors to remain in their own homes and receive in-home care services through our home care services division, Entrusted Hearts.
> Providing financial assistance to approximately six percent of our residents. Many who are 80+ years old.
> Renovating the Memory Support Neighborhood at our Oklahoma City campus to provide state-of-the-art help to those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s.
> Renovating the common areas, dining/gathering room, and hallways of our Miami, Oklahoma campus.
> Improvement of activities and exercise programs through technological innovation and equipment acquisition…helping seniors stay active and involved.
> Providing chaplaincy programs at each campus to ensure spiritual needs are met.

The senior living ministry and the ways we care for seniors are rapidly evolving to keep up with growing demand. BVC is determined to be at the forefront of this movement to meet the growing challenges of senior adult care/living.

If Baptist Village Communities has helped you or someone you love, or if it is on your heart to help aging and senior living adults keep affordable housing and care, please support the work we do by providing a gift. There are many ways to give. You may designate your gift to one or more of BVC’s campuses, you can designate your gift to one of our assistance funds, or you can make an unrestricted gift that we may use wherever the need is greatest at the time.

Not a Baptist? Not a problem. You do not have to be Baptist to live in one of our communities. Residents enjoy living among neighbors in a place with a feeling of family and togetherness.
